The Unordinary Comic Strip

The Unordinary Comic Strip

Although his parents wanted him to be a dentist
He knew that his gifts were drawing, and writing
It all started with the classic Bazooka Joe comics
That was the beginning of Art Spiegleman’s dream
But his vision went beyond the ordinary, he wanted to be extraordinary
He wanted the idea of a comic to be redefined as art for adults and children alike
He joined the underground comix movement and founded the magazine RAW
This way he could write the unusual comics he desired to
Who knew how people would react

This all lead to the publication of Maus
He took on the challenge of writing about a serious subject in the context of a comic strip
Where he shared the experience of his parents in concentration camps
He was rewarded for the challenge when he was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for his work
He was thrilled with the news and was as happy as a clown
He went on to write and more comics and stories
His artistic style led him to have work published in books and magazines
His passion is to be different than everyone else and it shines through in his writing
