Dream Poem

John Brown: An Abolitionist Patriarch

John Brown was a man among boys
He was like a rock, you couldn’t break him
He never backed down, he never quit
And he wasn’t afraid to take a hit
Some say he was larger than life
To bad his was filled with strife

He always believed that slavery was wrong
And he also liked the idea of having the right to bare arms
Armed insurrection was his work of art
Violence seemed to be the answer he sought

He went to Kansas and hacked up some men
Just because that’s what he believed in
He then moved on to Harper’s Ferry in Virginia
And many were afraid he was gonna get ya
Historians see this as the beginning of the civil war
But I see this as settling the score

Some saw John Brown as a heroic martyr and visionary
While others saw him as a madman suffering from schizophrenia
He ended up losing his neck for what he believed in
That’s why he’s considered one of the most controversial Americans
